Dress Up Your Home with a Classy Chandelier
Most of us think of huge crystal chandeliers dripping with prisms when someone mentions a chandelier. For hundreds of years these opulent beauties were signs of wealth and prestige, and nothing that a modest homeowner would ever consider for their own homes. However, in addition to crystal chandeliers, there are now many different kinds being manufactured for use in any kind of setting. You can find choices that are contemporary, rustic, traditional, and for nurseries and children of all ages.
You can still buy the huge crystal chandeliers, but there are many models that have been scaled down to a size that will fit into most houses. You can buy models which are a mere 11” wide and on up. Some of them are the clear glass type, and others are wild with colors. Many of them feature electric candles, and others use hidden bulbs. If you look at some of the lights featured online, you’ll see that there are a lot of them that would be appropriate in an entrance hall to give it a grand appearance.
Contemporary chandeliers come in all shapes and sizes. It’s actually hard to describe them, because they are all so unique and different. You can buy them in black, brass, white, gold, ivory, brushed steel, pewter, wood, and chrome. Some are even hand-painted. Many of them have glass light globes, some have tiny lampshades clipped on electric candles, and others have round giclee drum shades with tiny bullet lights protruding from the under side.
If you like a more rustic look, there are also tons of different models available. You can find truly ornate western chandeliers with multiple tiers and resin wildlife on them. Others are made of ornate metal designs and glass globes. Some are even made with antlers for a really rustic effect. Real, cast-off antlers are used in many of these, but you have to watch, because some are resin knock-offs instead of the real thing.
Traditional chandeliers are quite elaborate, but they can be very affordable. You can buy lovely ones for as little as $200. The majority are made of intricate metal work with curlicues and graceful arms holding the electric candles and bulbs. There are shades available for them in many different styles and materials and include parchment, silks, and glass. Although many of them have multiple bulbs, you can also buy models that are Energy Star rated.
There are some beautiful chandeliers being made for your nursery. You will be able to find designs such as the Humpty Dumpty chandelier which has five arms with roly-poly pastel characters sitting on them. Each is topped with a light and a little blue shade with white pom-poms around the rim. Another particularly adorable nursery chandelier is the Garden Bunny. The bunny is the central figure, and he’s surrounded by arms with pink tulip light holders and sage green toile shades.
As you child grows a little more, there are chandeliers that are suited for older children. The Flip Flops chandelier is really cool. Each arm is decorated with a brightly-colored pair of flip flops. The shades are covered with equally-bright stripes. For boys there are chandeliers with every kind of sport you could want or things like motorcycles, race cars, and airplanes. There’s something to tickle the fancy of every child.
You can see now that chandeliers are available for every type of home and need. You can find them in all price ranges, too. The old-fashioned bulbs and globes have been relegated to the attic, and people everywhere are adding stylish chandeliers to their home décor.
